Affect vs. effect

What is the difference between affect and effect? How would one use both?

Jill, affect is usually a verb. Studying can affect your grade.

 

Effect is usually a noun. Not studying can have an effect on your grade.

 

There are other uses for each, but this is the basic difference.

The way I remember this is as follows: 

Affect is an ACTION (use the first letter as a clue). 

 

Effect is the END result.
