However, largest horizontal distance is probably given by the value of x that makes the quadratic function zero.
-x2 + 2 x + 2 = 0. According to the quadratic formula, the solutions for x are
x = 1 + sqrt(3) and x = 1 - sqrt(3). Only the first one is positive, so x = 1 + sqrt(3)
The x value yielding the highest value of the function is x = 1, where the function reaches the value 3.
