Hi Monica--
Unalienable rights (sometimes written as inalienable) are those rights that every person _deserves_ to have.
Documents such as the Declaration of Independence and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights use the phrase to demand that governments and leaders treat people fairly.
People whose inalienable rights are taken away from them--in countries with oppressive governments, for example-may lose the right to say what they believe, worship how they choose, get an education, choose if/who they want to marry, have a good job where they are paid a fair wage--even the right to be safe from physical harm and violence.
It is important that organizations like the United Nations hold leaders and governments accountable to these rights, so that those leaders know the eyes of the world are on them.
Does it always work? Of course not, sadly. But the more awareness there is of human rights abuses, the more the world will stand up and say "enough."
Hope this helps you out.
