Using Google Sheets, how can I allow a user to select more than one option to populate a cell? Can this be done with data validation or some kind of pre-defined clickable list?

In Google Sheets, with data validation, you can not choose more than one option to populate a cell. I realize you posted this question a long time ago, but I just came across the question.
