=SUMIF( cell range, criteria)
EX. in column a1 through a8 put the data 1 2 0 3 0 4 0 5
in cell C8 put the formula =SUMIF(a1:a8, "<>0")
THe result is 15, as expected.
the argument "<>0" as you can probably guess, is the CONDITION on which the
summation depends. In this case, you only want to add them if they are NOT EQUAL to zero.
<> means NOT EQUAL, so the argument "<>0" means not equal to zero
