I apologize for being pedantic, but are your equations written correctly? I ask because what you wrote are not equations! What I mean is, there are no equals signs. 

 

Now if your equations are x + y = 6 and x + y = -4, then the way to check whether the given coordinate solves the system is simply to plug that point in.

 

Here's what I mean. What does (-1,5) represent? Once you figure that out, you should be able to determine values of x and y. Then, simply take your values of x and y and plug them into each equation.

 

Now, does the answer you get make sense? Follow your intuition. That should lead you to the answer.
