C60 fullerene is a stable molecule of carbon consisting of 60 carbon atoms arranged in a hollow ball looking like a geodesic dome. It was first synthesized in 1985 by a team of scientists who named it after Buckminster Fuller who was an American architect who was fond of geodesic domes. Buckminster fullerene molecules are also called buckyballs. They have so far been used in some medical imaging applications.
