Premium coffee sells for $6 per pd. and reg coffee sells for $4 per pd. How many pounds of each type must be blended to yield 100 pds of a blend that sells for $4.64?

 

Need two equations

x = pounds at $6

100 - x = pounds at $4

 

6x + 4(100 - x) = 4.64(100)

6x + 400 - 4x = 464

2x = 64

x = 32

100 - x = 68

 

He should use 32 pounds of the %6 and 68 pounds of the $4.
