The genre of pop has its origins in the U.S. and the U.K. It's a form of modern music that utilizes simple and repetitive chord and rhythm structures, and the melodies are not complex. The earliest forms of pop music began in the 1950s with rock n roll and jazz, with Elvis Presley dominating the pop scene then. As the years went on, musicians from Britain came over to the states and started rock groups that dominated the 60s and 70s. Up until the 1980s, the instrumentation was not electronic and processed. The 80s and 90s, however, saw the use of digital music, and rap also rose to fame during this time as well. From the early 2000s to now, pop found its unique structure and niche in music and hasn't really changed drastically since then.
