General organic chemistry is a first year survey course usually recommended and required for allied health students such as pre-nursing students.
It does not require the theory and involved mechanism of the higher level organic chem classes required for chem majors and pre-meds, pre-dental students, but it covers a lot of material very quickly.
It involves no math except for some pH questions, but that theory was covered in the prerequisite for the course CHEM 1151. It is usually the fast pace of the course that the students find challenging. In addition, many of the students are not familiar with the required study time to excel in the course--1-3 hrs per lecture hr.
Recommend daily study and print Powerpoint slides for class prior to class to make notes directly onto. Can print up to 4 per sheet of paper. Print on front side only though for ease of use. Good luck and if you need a tutor I am available. I have taught this course for over 8 years. Alison D.
