A restaurant owner bought 245 cartons of canned corn.  Each carton held 28 can of corn.  There were 2198 cans of yellow corn and the rest were white corn.  All the cans of white corn were used equally over 42 months. How many cans of white corn did the restaurant owner use each month?

First we need to find how many cans of corn we have total:

 

245 cartons x 28 cans per carton = 6944 cans of corn

 

Now we know only 2198 of these were yellow, so the rest must be white:

 

6944 - 2198 = 4746 cans of white corn.

 

If all these white cans of corn were used equally per month then:

 

4746/42 is the answer which is 113 cans of white corn per month were used by the restaurant owner.
