Problem while doing acidification

Question

We are trying to make 3,3-dimethyl oxobutyric acid from pinacolone. This reaction is carried out in Alkaline medium. After completion of reaction acidification is done. The problem is during acidification, Decarboxylation takes place and large amount of pivalic acid is formed. Tried all conditions like i did acidification at 0°C but no results.
