Whenever something is mass produced the price falls and the availability increases. Meaning shoes bcame more readily available. However, the quality was not the same as custom made shoes. Also when clothing became mass produced a system for determining sizes needed to be developed. Think of the shoe sozing chart. This was developed so people could know, reliably, what size shoe they would need to buy.
