The basal metabolic rate measures the rate at which a person's body burns food and nutrient __________. A. at rest B. under stress C. while exercising D. on average
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the amount of energy in calories one's body requires to maintain its normal functioning at rest. Let's say Suzy has a BMR of 1200 calories. She would require that many calories daily to sustain their body weight at rest. Every active movement above that adds to the number of calories she requires. So lets say that she burns another 300 just walking around and doing chores during the day, and then she burns 400 calories during her daily work out. That now puts her daily caloric requirement at her BMR+Daily Activity+Workout= 1200+300+400= 1900 calories.
