Hi Ryan,
3[4(-3y)-4]+5[2(-3y)+1] = 3[-12y-4] + 5[2(-3y)+1] (multiply the 4 by -3)
= 3[-12y-4] + 5[-6y+1] (multiply the 2 by -3)
= 3(-12y) -3(4) + 5[-6y+1] (distribute the 3 through the first term)
= 3(-12y) -3(4) + 5(-6y)+5 (distribute the 5 through the second term)
= -36y -12 + -30y +5 (multiply 3(-12), 3x4 and 5(-6))
= -36y -12 + -30y +5 (multiply 3(-12), 3x4 and 5(-6))
= -66y - 12 + 5 (combine y terms)
= -66y - 7 (combine constant terms)
I hope that helps.
Regards,
