The denominator of a fraction is 5 more than the numerator.

 

if 1 is added to the numerator and 2 is subtracted from the denominator, the fraction will become 4/5ths.

 

Find the fraction.

 

Answer is 7/12ths

x +1 = 4 x+5 The denominator of a fraction is 5 more than the numerator.

x+5-2 5 x +1 if 1 is added to the numerator

x + 5- 2 2 is subtracted from the denominator

= 4

____the fraction will become 4/5th s

= 5x +5 = 4x +12 ------> We get this by CROSS MULTIPLYING.

-4x -5 -4x -5

x = 7 -------> Now substitute the 7 for X in the original equation..
