Elementary Algebra: simplifying by combining like terms

The expression I have is as follows:

Simplify by combining like terms.

6t-12t = (figure it out)

I'm looking at this and wanting to go okay...
so 6(t-2t)
Divide this side by the 6, moving it to the other side...

t-2t=6

Then divide side one by 2, to get rid of that and move it to the other side? Typing this out it makes zero sense to my brain. Please help?

Additionally... 2(3x-5)-13 = value brain goes... okay so (6x-10) - 13 = value Simplifying and attempting to is confusing my brain.

Homework due by midnight tomorrow :(
