I love math, and I love to teach it.
Hello, Brandon,
There is no question on this problem, but let's assume that you are trying to find the dimensions ( length and width).
1. Highlight key words or numbers in story problem:
l= (w+7) p = 46 meters
A rectangular room is 7 meters longer than it is wide, and its perimeter is 46 meters.
p=46 m
_______________
| | w=width
|______________|
l=length=(w +7)
P=2l +2w Use substitution. Since perimeter was mentioned in the story problem, that is what formula you will use.
46 = 2(w+7) + 2w Simplify by using the Distributive Property. Then collect like terms to find "w." Remember
that the length= (w+7).
I am going to let you finish your problem. Susan C.
I am going to let you solve for "w." Let me know if you still need more help. Susan C.
