Hello,
(x + y)/2 = 7 <-----The average of two numbers is 7/
(x - y)*3 = 18 <-----Three times the difference between them is 18
Then:
(x + y)/2 = 7
x + y = 14
y = 14 - x, substitute this into (x - y)*3 = 18.
(x - (14 - x))*3 = 18
(x - 14 + x)*3 = 18
(2x - 14)*3 = 18
2x - 14 = 6
2x = 6 + 14
2x = 20
x = 10, plug this into (x + y)/2 = 7.
Then:
(10 + y)/2 = 7
10 + y = 14
y = 4
x = 10 y = 4
I hope I have helped and wish you a great weekend.
