If EF=8x and EG=17x-8, What is EF ?

8x = 1/2( 17x - 8)

 

8x = 17/2 X - 4

 

0 = 17/2 X - 4 - 8x

 

0 = 17/2X - 4 - 16/2 X

 

0 = 1/2X - 4

 

4 = 1/2X

 

X = 8

 

EF = 8*8 = 64

 

EG = 17*8 - 8

     = 136 - 8 

    = 128

 

which is twice 64.
