If LM = 9x and MN = x + 8 , what is LM


Simplify your answer and write it as a proper fraction, mixed number, or integer.

LM is given as 9x.  Without more information, that's all that that can be done.  Did you mean "What is LN?"  If so, and assuming that LM and MN are line segments along the same line, you can apply the segment addition postulate:
 
LN = LM + MN = 9x + x + 8
 
Combine like terms.  You can't get a fraction, mixed number, or integer without more information.
