I got an answer of 56 but not sure that this is right

triangle rst and triangle uvw are similar right triangles triangle rst has legs that measure 9 inches and 12 inches if the longer leg of triangle uvw measures 42 inches what is the length of the shorter leg of triangle

similar triangles: RST & UVW.
 
Therefore RS/UV = ST/VW = RT/UW ... corresponding sides of similar triangles are in proportion.
 
To use this fact reliably, you would have to know WHICH sides of triangle RST measure 9 & 12 inches, and which side (BY NAME) is 42 inches in triangle UVW.
 
As it is, you cannot determine an answer!  The 'shorter' & 'longer' remark is not adequate.

So their is no answer to this problem.I don't have that choice on my paper...the choices are
A. 31.5 in
B. 45 in
C. 56 in
D. 73.5 in
