the contianer that holds the water for the football team is 1/2 full. after pouring in 5 gallons of water, it is 7/10 fuill. how many gallons can the container hold?

so previously container has x/2 gallon water

 

after pouring in 5 gallons of water, it is 7/10 fuill.

 

So

 

x/2 + 5 = 7x/ 10

 

5x + 50 = 7x

 

2x =50

 

x= 25

 

container can hold  25  gallon of water

V/2 + (5 gal) = (7/10)V

 

0.5 V + 5 = 0.7v

 

5 = 0.2V

 

v = 5/0.2 gal = 25 gal
