You buy a clothes pattern cost $7. You also buy 3/4 yd of red fabric, 2 1/2 yd of purple fabric, and 7/8 yd of blue fabric. The total cost was $23.50. All three fabrics cost the same price. Write and solve an equation to find the price per yard. How much was spent on each fabric?

 X is the common price.

 

2 and 1/2 = 5/2

 

 

3/4X + 5/2X + 7/8X + 7 = 23.50

 

6/8X + 20/8X + 7/8X + 7 = 23.50

 

33/8X + 7 = 23.50

 

33/8X = 16.50

 

X = 16.50*8/33 = 4

 

That's $4 per yard

 

3/4*4 = $3 on the red fabric

 

5/2*4 = $10 on the purple fabric

 

7/8*4 = $3.50 on the blue fabric
