Suppose width of a rectangle = x inches.

 Length of a rectangle =(2x-7) inches

Perimeter of a rectangle= 2( Length+width)

    40= 2(2x-7+x)

    20 =3x-7

    27=3x

  x= 9

width= 9 inches

Length= 2x-7 =18-7=11 inches
