Hi Joshua;
First choose variables for the unknowns:
f = father's age
w = wife's age
d = daughter's age
Now set up equations from info given:
f = 9d
f = w+2
f + w + d = 74
From 2nd: w = f - 2 = 9d - 2
now use 3rd equation:
9d + (9d-2) + d = 74
19d - 2 = 74
19d = 76
d = 4
From here use the original equations to find ages of
father and wife.
Questions?

Andrew M.
father is 9 times as old as daughter
f = 9d
father is 2 years older than wife:
f = w + 2
subtract 2 from both sides
w = f-2
Since f is 9d use that in w = f-2
w = 9d - 2
