it cost 13.75 for a man to travel home from the airport. the taxi charged 1.75 for the first 1/8 mile and 25(cent) for each additional 1/mile. How far did he travel in the taxi? im having alot of trouble understanding this question if you could write out the process of answering that'd help alot

y = 1.75 + 0.25(x-1) where x is number of eighths of a mile (rounded up)

13.75 = 1.75(x-1)

12.00 = 0.25(x-1)

48 = x-1

x = 49 so distance is 49/8 mile = 6¼ mile (rounded up).
