Let s = Seorsia's age
Let m = Mae's age
Seorsia is 6 years older than Mae:
s = m + 6 {equation 1}
In two years, Seorsia will be twenty more than one-third of Mae's age:
s+2 = (1/3)(m+2) + 20 {equation 2}
Since we know s = m+6 we can substitute that into 2nd equation
m+6+2 = (1/3)(m+2) + 20
m + 8 = (1/3)(m+2) + 20
subtract 8 from both sides
m = (1/3)(m+2) + 12
to clear the fraction multiply through by 3
3m = m+2 + 36
subtract m from both sides
2m = 38
divide both sides by 2
m = 19
s = m+6 = 25
Mae is 19
Seorsia is 25

Juniors age is two years younger than Robert. 5 years from now, thrice Junior's age is twice of that of Robert's. Find the age of Junior now.
j = r -2
r = j+2
3(j+5) = 2(r+5)
3j + 15 = 2r + 10
3j - 2r = -5
Now substitute j+2 in place of r
3j - 2(j+2) = -5
3j - 2j - 4 = -5
j = -1
I've gone over this, and the answer is that Junior won't
be born for a year. Are you sure this is worded correctly?
**********************************
June is 2 years less than 3 times as old as Furd. 10 years
from now June will be 5 less than twice as old as Furd.
What is the age of June now?
j = 3f - 2
j+10 = 2(f+10) - 5
j + 10 = 2f + 20 - 5
j - 2f = 15 - 10
j - 2f = 5
Note: we could take the first equation and solve for f
in order to have all in terms of j now. If we do that,
we have f = (1/3)(j+2). I prefer to leave out this
fraction and just substitute in 3f-2 for j. Then just
use the 3f-2 to find j after silving for f...
3f - 2 - 2f = 5
f - 2 = 5
f = 7
j = 3f-2 = 21-2 = 19
Hope this helps. Take a look at the wording on
the first question here.
