This problem is relatively easy, we just need to translate it from words to an equation:
2 is subtracted from a number => (x-2) where x is our unknown number
this difference is tripled => 3*(x-2)
The result (3*(x-2)) is (when we see "is" we should translate this to an equality) 6 more (so add 6) than our number
=> 3*(x-2) = x + 6
which we can then solve (I'll leave that detail to you!) for x = 6.
