What if an atom loses one electron?

I am  pretty sure it would just have a positive charge but I want to know for certain.

Andrew M.

Think of each proton as a charge of +1
Think of each electron as a charge of -1
When # protons = # electrons the charge is zero
because they cancel out

If we lose one electron then we have a net
charge of +1 because the protons now outnumber
the electrons by 1

If students ask you if you are sure about this, tell them you are POSITIVE.
