how to solve 2x squared plus 9x minus 5

2x2+9x-5

Andrew M.

THIS IS JUST AN B EXPRESSION.
IS IT SUPPOSED TO BE
2X2 + 9x - 5 = 0

If so it can be factored by grouping
2x+ 10x - x - 5 = 0
2x (x+5) - (x+5) = 0
(2x-1)(x+5) =0
2x -1=0.    Or.   X+5=0
2x=1.                 X=-5
x = 1/2

X = 1/2 or -5

The point here is, you don't solve an expression, you solve an equation. Factoring will be involved, either to solve the equation when you set the quadratic to zero, or if you merely had been asked to "factor this expression (quadratic)"
