      2 H ₂ + O ₂ → H ₂ 0 (g) + heat

 

                  Note:  the g after H₂0 indicates that the water is in gaseous state.

 

 

Is this an oxidation reaction?  why or why not?

This is not an oxidation reaction because the oxidation numbers of the elements O2 and H2 are not changed. the reaction will be after balance 2H2 + O2 => 2H2O + Heat.

This is a direct combination reaction.
