False. Many of these nations are struggling and poverty-stricken. Some of them are worse off now than they were in 1989, such as Serbia and Ukraine. Some had initial success, but experienced a decline in standard of living after the 2009 recession. This would include the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. There have been some moderate success stories, though, such as Romania, Poland, and Hungary.
