If we have x books that cost $6
We have 9-x books that cost $6.50
 
6x + 6.5(9-x) = 56
6x + 58.5 - 6.5x = 56
-.5x = -2.5
x = 5 books at $6
4 books at $6.50
 
check: 5(6)+6.5(4) = 56
           30+26=56
            56=56
