 Perimeter of the large rectangle is 64 feet.

 

2n + 2(3n-8) = 64 

 

 

2n + 6n - 16 = 64

 

8n = 80

 

n = 10

 

Now that we know the value for n just plug it into the expressions we have for the length and width of the smaller rectangle and solve for its Area.

 

 

Area of the smaller rectangle = length * width

 

= 17 * 7

 

= 119  square feet.
