If you want to fence in your yard and want to know how many feet it would be if the dimensions are 12.5 yards long and 5.5 yards wide

The yard is 12.5 yeards long by 5.5 yards wide.  If we are going to fence the yard, then we will be dealing with the perimeter.

 

Perimeter = 2L + 2W

Perimeter = 2(12.5) + 2(5.5)

P = 25yards + 11yards = 36 yards total.

The unit of yard(s) is in the numerator and denominator.  These cancel...

[2(18 yards)][(3 feet)/(1 yard)]

[2(18)][(3 feet)/(1)]

The only unit remaining is feet.  This is what we want...
