Multi-Step Synthesis

Convert acetylene to hexanoic acid justifying why each step is taken.

1) This is a clear violation of both the rules and the spirit of the exercise. (HCCH) x 3 --> hexanoic acid.
 
2) This is two steps, it is not multi-step. ∴ it is unacceptable.
 
3) In the future, intermediates are implied and not included in multi-step syntheses. If you do state an intermediate because it is important to the route or has special relevance, you should indicate both the structure and its relevance.
 
4) This is not an atom-economical solution. You are also wasting atoms.
