One number is 7 less than another number. The sum of the numbers is 63. Find the numbers.

Let X and Y be the two numbers

X = Y -7 and X + Y = 63

 

Substitution method used 

Y-7 +Y =63

2Y = 63 +7 =70     so  Y= 70/2 = 35

 

X = 35 - 7 = 28

The number are 28 and 35
