When balancing a chemical formula, you can swap the charges and make them the subscripts...so if barium has a 2+ and nitrogen has a 3-, then swap them so you have 3 bariums and 2 nitrogens...that gives a total of 3(2+) = 6+ charge for the barium and (2)(3-) = 6- charge for the nitrogen....and its balanced!
