The first step in solving an equation is to determine the variable/unknown. In this case, it is the #of months you can use the gym. You know that the amount of money you have to spend is 150 so the equation must be equal to that number. If you call the unknown/#of months x, the equation would look like this:
x=# of months
22+16×=150. Solve for x
-22. -22. Subtract 22 from both sides
16×=128. Divide by 16
×=8
The unknown is 8 months.

Then amount payable = 22 + 16xN
The total money he has =150
So 22 + 16xN =150
16 N= 150- 22
16N = 128
N = 128/16 = Number of months he can use the club
