Need help with a fractional exponent

the problem is: x² √ x. I know the answer is x^5/2 but I don't know how to get  that answer.

√x = x^½ 

 

So you have 

(x²)(x^1/2)

 

Add the exponents

 

(x^{2 + ½}) = x^5/2

 

Does this make sense?
