Definition of allied assault on Italy and the German assault on the soviet union?

Need a brief answer because it is for me to study on my study guide for test tomorrow.

I DID SOME RESEARCH.  THE USSR CAME INTO EXISTENCE IN 1922, AFTER THE FIRST WORLD WAR.

During the First World War, Italy was our ally.  During the Second World War, it was our enemy.  Mussolini was Italy's leader during the last War.  The Second World War invasion was performed by an ally to the United States.  Such ally was Great Britain and Canada of the United Kingdom.

 

Germany assaulted Russia during World War II.  

 

The Soviet Union was also known as the USSR, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
