5 students are missing from a class. That is 1/4 of the class. How many total students. Write the equation

I know the answer is 20 but I can't figure out how to write the equation

I just noticed you were most concerned about formulating the equation.  To that end, in the sentence "That is 1/4 of the class"  the 'That' they refer to is "5 students" and the rest of the sentence equates the 5 to "(1/4)(class)",  so  5 = (1/4)(class).   Above, I just used 'x' instead of 'class'.
