350% of some number is 24.3. What is the number?

It is an collage math algebra problem

% = /100
 
of means times
 
is means =
 
350/100 times x = 24.3
 
3.5 x = 24.3
 
x = 6.9

The technique of translation is particularly useful when taking standardized tests like the SAT or ACT.  If you learn to use it you can do problems on standardized tests very quickly.  Unfortunately many teachers do not know it or use it because part/whole is the process in most textbooks.  The part/whole process cannot be used in problems such as this:  32 percent of 40 percent of what number is 6.

We can use here percent equation
 
part/whole = % / 100 
 
 
part=24.3
 
%=350
 
some number= whole= x
 
24.3 / x = 350/100
 
cross multiply
 
24.3 * 100 = 350* x
 
2430 = 350x
 
2430/350 = x
 
6.9 = x
 
 
350% of 6.9  is 24.3.
