One billion is a thousand thousand = 1000*1000 = 1,000,000,000 (one followed by 9 zeros)
 
43 billion = 43*1000*1000 = 43,000,000,000

In U.K. the 109 number that we citizens of U.S.A. call one billion is called "one thousand millions."
In U.K., the word billion has the value 1012.
