The first step is to list the data set in increasing order:
{23, 28, 30, 37, 37, 39, 43, 44}.
There are 8 numbers in the list.
The minimum is 23 (smallest number).
The lower quartile is 28 (quartile means quarter and the first two numbers form the first quarter, and the cut off value is 28).
The median (number halfway between) is 37. It's actually the average of the fourth and fifth number in the list, which are both 37.
The upper quartile is 43 (see explanation for the first quartile).
The maximum is 44 (largest number).
A sixth measure is called the mode, and it is the number which occurs most often. In this case, it is 37 as well.
