-8( -8 -8P ) - 8P(P + 2)

 

= 64 + 64P  - 8P^2 -  16P       (Now group like terms and place in descending exponent order of P)

 

= -8P^2 + 48P + 64   <----Answer

You can simplify as follows

-8(-8-8p) - 8p(p+2)

64 + 64p - 8p^2 - 16p

-8p^2 + 48p +64 Its a quadratic polynomial which can be factorised.

Assuming -8p^2 + 48p + 64 +0

you can use standard root solutuion for a standard quadratic equation Ax^2 + Bx + C = 0

x = ( -B +/- Sqrt (B^2 - 4AC))/2A

In this case A = -8, B = 48, C=64

substituting the values

p= ( -48 +/- sqrt(192 + 2048))-16

p = -16 or 2
