What are the dimensions of the pool?

A rectangular swimming pool has a perimeter of 50 metres. The length is 9 metres more than the width. What are the dimensions of the pool?

Mel, perimeter is 2l + 2w, right?

 

If we call the width w, then the length is w + 9

 

2w + 2(w + 9) = 50

2w + 2w + 18 = 50

4w = 32

w = 8

 

The width is 8 metres and the length is 17 metres.
