The length of a rectangle is 5m greater than the width. The perimeter is 150m. Find the width and length.

We have rectangle.

 

The perimeter (P) is 150m.

P = 2(L+W), where L = length and W = width

 

From the first sentence, we have 

L = W + 5

 

Now putting this altogether.

P = 150 = 2(L+W)

150 = 2[(W+5)+W]

 

Now we can solve for W

 

150 = 2W + 10 + 2W

140 = 4W

35 = W

 

And since L = W+5

L = 35 + 5 = 40

 

The rectangle is 40m x 35m
