So it's fairly straight-forward: Assume you have x science problems. Then you have x+10 math problems. Now total problems= Science problems + Math Problems So, 42= x+x+10 42= 2x+10 so, 42-10 = 2x+10-10 (Subtracting 10 from both sides) 32= 2x 32/2 = 2x/2 (Dividing both sides by 2) so, 16 = x Therefore, you have 16 Science problems and 26 math problems
